We love the classic Motown records of the 60s and 70s that paired sliding orchestral arrangements with the sweet, syrupy voices of soul and R&B luminaries like Isaac Hayes, Curtis Mayfield and the Chi-Lites. When the strings came in, they might circle, float, or serenade. They might pluck, tiptoe, or stagger. But they’d always play as one, forming the melancholic or hopeful backdrop for those velveteen vocals.
