A basitar is an electric guitar that has been strung with bass strings. This particular configuration was invented by Mark Sandman of the band Morphine, and later refined by Chris Ballew of the Presidents of the United States of America.

For this project, I took an old Squier Affinity Strat that had been left outside, cleaned it up, and added hardware. The result is the instrument you see above.

The sample library is pretty simple, as the instrument doesn’t have a huge range, but it works really well for rock and new wave bass lines. As usual, I’m providing both DI and Amp samples. There are multiple round robins per note (between two and four depending on the range). There’s also a version where I left the fret buzz in for added realism.

Have fun!
