ACOUSTIC EVENTS BEYOND HUMAN SCALE
ARMAGEDDON is a professional sound effects library centred on natural disasters at extreme scale. Earthquakes, storms, avalanches, collapsing terrain, and overwhelming environmental forces form the core of the library. Alongside this, selected designed content pushes into truly gigantic territory, delivering extra-large events that go beyond real-world reference while remaining usable in serious production workflows.
Extinction Level Explosion Sounds
ARMAGEDDON focuses on large-scale natural disasters rather than isolated effects. Meteorite impacts, earthquake sound effects, storm sound effects, thunder, collapsing terrain, and environmental destruction are designed as unfolding events that occupy space and time. The emphasis is on scale and movement, not single impacts.
The Krakatoa Eruption Sound
The Krakatoa eruption was the loudest sound ever recorded, but with 180 dB at 160km distance not recordable in a modern cinematic quality. While the library is grounded in natural disaster sound design, parts of the Designed content deliberately extend into gigantic, beyond-reality scale to achieve impact that modern film, television, and games demand.
Aggressive by Design
These 3,100+ sounds are intentionally dense, compressed, and forceful. Distortion and saturation are part of the sound, not an accident. ARMAGEDDON is built to deliver weight and energy that can hold its place in modern cinematic mixes without being buried by music or dialogue.
Scale at Multiple Distances
Although ARMAGEDDON excels at wide, distant, overwhelming events, it also supports closer perspectives. The Construction Kit includes material suitable for more immediate detail, allowing sound designers to move from large-scale establishing moments to physical, close-up destruction.
Gigantic Designed Events
The Designed section goes beyond natural disaster into truly gigantic scale. These 300+ sounds represent forces that exceed any real-world reference, using extreme density and controlled chaos to deliver overwhelming impact. They are intended for moments where naturalism alone is not enough.
Designed Against Picture
Extensive visual research informed the timing and motion of the sounds. Large-scale disaster footage and environmental events were studied to ensure ARMAGEDDON translates convincingly against picture, whether used as distant forces or closer, more physical layers.
What We Recorded
ARMAGEDDON is driven by research and sound design rather than direct field recording. Real-world disaster footage, environmental references, and physical behaviour were studied to understand motion, timing, and scale. From there, sound design techniques were used to create events that could not be safely or practically recorded.
What's so special about this library?
ARMAGEDDON is built for sound designers working at extreme scale. While the foundation of the library is natural disaster sound design, it also includes designed content at a gigantic scale for moments that demand more than reality can provide. Earthquake, storm, thunder, and large-scale explosion sound effects are engineered to read clearly in modern cinematic mixes for film, high-end television, trailers, and games.
Product lead Michael Schwendler talks about how we went about creating ARMAGEDDON, a sound effects library built around natural disasters at extreme scale, where so much of the sound is simply impossible to capture.
From earthquakes and avalanches to massive storms and large-scale destruction, ARMAGEDDON tackles events that exist far beyond everyday experience. For us, that meant approaching the project very differently from a traditional field-recording-led library.
COMPATIBLE SOFTWARE
This BOOM Library of creature sounds comes as WAV files, meaning you can import and work with them in any software that can handle this file type.
RICH METADATA EMBEDDED
To provide you with the fastest and easiest workflow possible, all files contain extensive metadata like file description & keywords to quickly find the sounds you're looking for. Metadata can be read and processed by audio management tools.
