Known for co-writing and playing keyboards on Aloe Blacc’s worldwide smash “The Man,” Kendrick Lamar’s “Institutionalized,” Anderson Paak’s “Heart Don’t Stand a Chance” and for working with artists as diverse as Ledisi, Norah Jones, The Brand New Heavies and Cassandra Wilson, Sam Barsh has recorded on over 70 albums and composed over 100 commercially released songs. His work has achieved multi-Platinum status and won 3 GRAMMYS out of 8 nominations, 2 BMI Awards and an MTV Video Music Award.
Along with frequent collaborator DJ Khalil, Barsh began creating custom samples shortly after relocating to Los Angeles from NYC. Since then, his samples have been used in a string of successful records, including Logic’s Gold-certified single “Black Spiderman,” BJ the Chicago Kid’s GRAMMY-nominated album “In My Mind,”and recent releases by Rick Ross, A$AP Rocky, Mali Music, Big K.R.I.T., Nipsey Hu$$le and more.
An internationally-renowned jazz pianist before his transition into the studio world, this collection draws on Barsh’s rich harmonic knowledge and jazz sensibility, delivering a palette of chords and melodies that can be chopped, manipulated, or simply used as-is.
Until now, these samples have been privately distributed to a select few producers. With Chairman of the Chords Vol.1 Barsh has made his custom creations available to the general public for the first time.
