In 2021, Splice approached composer/performer/sound artists Richard Reed Parry and Susie Ibarra to create a body of new musical work together as a first time, long distance music collaboration. The two decided to expand on an idea used in Parry's prior composition work - using the rhythms of their heart rates and breathing patterns as the basis for rhythmic tempos and musical dynamics paired with Ibarra's extended rhythmic and melodic percussion language and her ongoing interpretive practice of Philippine gong music.

The sound of the sarangi is known for its close resemblance to a human voice; some say it achieves the closest resemblance of all instruments. A traditional folk instrument from Nepal, its bowed shape, short-neck, and four strings are able to imitate vocal ornaments such as gamaks (shakes) and meends (sliding movements from note to note). The word sarangi is derived from 'Sau Rangi', which means 'Hundred Colored' and signifies its ability to convey a wide range of moods and emotions.
