Found in a flea market, buried inside a box full of dust and cutlery, this balloon wine Glass has a bright and crystalline tone and long sustain. Hits were sampled with fingers, a piano hammer, a metal stick, and palm of the hand. Additional sounds produced with wet fingers on the border, small screws thrown inside the goblet, and processed slowed down hits for the atmospheric pads.

Evil Drums was recorded in two of LA’s greatest rock drum rooms direct to analog tape, using Studer tape recorders. Joe used the studios’ classic Neve consoles and his own esoteric collection of (secret) outboard gear to sculpt his sounds. To accomodate the way Joe records and to keep things phase accurate, the BFD drums are set up as follows: Kick In and Kick Out were recorded as a mono track and multed to both tracks.Cymbals 1 & 2 are the same as the Overheads right and left respectively as viewed from audience perspective (please see the panning notes on page 10).

One of L.A.'s most respected producers, engineers and mixers — and one of the busiest — Jim Scott has built his rep off of crisp, live-off-the-floor sounds and attendant good vibes. Scott picked up his first Grammy in 1995 for engineering Tom Petty's Wildflowers, scoring two more for his work with Santana on Supernatural and the Foo Fighters' One By One. In 2007, he doubled his Grammy total, scoring a hat trick for his recording of the Dixie Chicks milestone Taking the Long Way. That album was the most recent of dozens of projects Scott has done with Rick Rubin during the past two decades, from Petty and Johnny Cash to the Red Hot Chili Peppers and Slayer.
