You need powerful bass that avoids being muddy and overblown, you need highs that will cut through without sounding tinny. In this issue’s Mixing For The Club cover feature, we’ll help you get your tracks club-ready. We’ll look at how to make sure they’ll sound great on any system, and how to prepare your creations to slot perfectly into a DJ set.

SoundEngine Microcosm [WAV]

SoundEngine Microcosm
SYNTHiC4TE | 23 August 2018 | 335 MB
microcosm is a collection of long (10-60 sec) evolving textures created using a combination of additive and granular synthesis. By using both additive and granulation synthesis we were able to really focus on creating evolving elements in the frequency and time domain -- this allowed us to explore changing harmonic structure and discrete granular properties simultaneously -- the result of this exploration is textures that have the harmonic sweeps from additive and the distinct particulated sound from granulation synthesis. This collection was primarily created on Symbolic Sound's Kyma System.

Since this curriculum is intended to help electronic musicians who use Ableton and Push 2, most of the demonstrations and walkthroughs are presented directly in Ableton and/or on Push 2. This means that learning music theory like major or minor scales and chords is different. In this short course, you'll learn the concepts in a way that makes more sense with Ableton and Push 2.

Music Protest Ableton Theory Music Theory Terms and Concepts
FANTASTiC | 22 August 2018 | 496 MB
Developing confidence with music theory (and using it in your electronic music) starts with a firm grasp of the fundamentals. You'll quickly learn about pitch, sharps and flats, the chromatic scale, accidentals, intervals and more. If you don't know what those are, you're making electronic music harder than it needs to be. Every time you want to learn something in music theory, you'll encounter these terms and concepts. If you're not comfortable with these terms and concepts then you'll be at a disadvantage in learning quickly.
